Three scientists speak about what it's like to have research funding cut by the Trump administration
The Trump administration's cuts to funding for American universities and research have left many scientists reeling and very worried. At the National Institutes of Health, which has an annual budget of US$47 billion to support medical research both in the U.S. and around the world, nearly 800 grants have been terminated. The administration is considering cutting the overall budget of the NIH by 40%. In this episode of The Conversation Weekly podcast, we speak to three scientists, two in the U.S. and one in South Africa, about what it's like to be a scientist whose funding has been cut by the Trump administration. Sunghee Lee was in a meeting when she received an email to say that her $5 million, five-year grant from the NIH had been terminated.
