DeepMind's release of AlphaGenome marks a significant advancement in the application of deep learning to genomics. This powerful AI system is designed to interpret the functional landscape of DNA sequences, including the elusive non-coding regions, using an unprecedented combination of scale and precision. AlphaGenome can process up to 1 million base pairs of input DNA and output predictions across thousands of functional genomic tracks, such as gene expression, splicing, chromatin state, and 3D genome architecture. The model's performance is remarkable: it achieves or surpasses state-of-the-art results on 24 out of 26 standard benchmarks for variant effect prediction. More importantly, it offers a unified and highly efficient architecture capable of handling multiple modalities, genomic distances, and base-pair resolution in a single model. learn more
