A recent thread on a forum I am active on had several posters complaining about Indian students accepted into UTAustin crowding out white (and presumably black and Hispanic) applicants. The claim was that they did it not by being smarter but by trying harder, spending all their time studying, taking multiple AP classes, sacrificing their youth to improve their chances of getting into a good school, also cheating on high school exams to get better grades. That left other students with the alternatives of either doing the same things or accepting a lower chance of getting into the state flagship school I do not know whether the claim about Indian origin students is true but it points at a problem that exists in many different contexts. Criteria exist to qualify for some desirable outcome: getting into college, getting tenure, getting someone to marry you, getting students to come to your law school.
