Ever since I broke from the conservative movement in 2004 over the Iraq War and the Bush administration's alliance with the religious right, I've considered myself a liberal. If you look at my voting record since then, it's clear that in at least one important sense this is correct: I cast a ballot for John Kerry that year, and I've voted for a Democrat in every subsequent presidential election. (That makes me a Kerry-Obama-Obama-Clinton-Biden-Harris voter.) When I point this out to conservatives online (MAGA or anti-MAGA), they often accuse me of being a thoughtless partisan. But that's not quite right. As I wrote way back in January 2015, I'm not a Democrat; I'm an anti-Republican'and I believe my reasons for this are founded in thought, not reflexive partisanship. I don't especially like the Democratic Party and feel very little affinity with members of its progressive establishment, activist base, or very online 'Resistance lib' faction that gathers on the Bluesky app. I vote...
