Zora Neale Hurston was a literary genius. So poetic, so committed to social justice, and able to gracefully capture the consequential nuances in her characters' lives. Obviously, "Their Eyes Were Watching God" is an extraordinarily powerful novel, as is her autobiographical work, "Dust Tracks on a Road." Her essays in "I Love Myself When I Am Laughing...and Then Again When I Am Looking Mean and Impressive" are just wonderful. This is a writer whose brilliance was sadly only widely recognized posthumously.
